Specialty Courses

Whatever your current level of diving, Specialty Courses offer a chance to learn new skills then practice and apply them so that you become a specialist among divers. The most popular specialties are described below, but there are many others.
Enriched Air (Nitrox) Specialty
Diving with enriched air nitrox gives you more no decompression dive time. This means more time underwater, especially on repetitive scuba dives. It's no surprise that this is PADI’s most popular specialty diving course. 1 day - available to PADI Open Water Divers 15 years or older:

Wreck Diver Specialty
Most divers find wrecked ships, airplanes and even automobiles fascinating because they are exciting to explore and are usually teeming with aquatic life. This course teaches you how to engage in rewarding and responsible wreck diving. 2 days (4 dives) - available to PADI Adventure Divers 15 years or older.
Deep Diver Specialty
There is something exciting and mysterious about the deep, and with this course comes the opportunity to explore deeper. Learn techniques for diving in the deeper range of 18-40 metres/ 60-130 feet. 2 days (4 dives) - available to PADI Adventure Divers 15 years or older.
Night Diver Specialty
Introduce yourself to the whole new set of critters that come out after dark and see dive sites from a whole new perspective. This course teaches your about night dive planning, equipment and navigation. 3 night dives - available to PADI Open Water Divers 12 years or older.
Peak Performance Buoyancy
Divers who have mastered buoyancy stand apart: they move effortlessly as if by thought, use less air and interact gently with aquatic life. This course refines your skills and elevates them to the next level. 1 day (2 dives) - available to PADI Open Water Divers
Digital Underwater Photographer
Photography is a great way to relive your dive adventuresand share the experience with your friends and family. This course gets you going quickly with today's modern digital equipment. 1 day (2 dives) - available to PADI Open Water Divers
National Geographic Specialty
As a National Geographic Dive Center, Calypso can also offer the National Geographic Diver Specialty. On this course you will master enhanced buoyancy skills, learn navigation techniques, identify reef life and carry out an exploration project of a dive site. This is an exciting and rewarding specialty that will increase your enjoyment of the underwater world.
Two AWARE Specialties are also available to divers and non-divers alike (see Non-diving courses page).
Specialty Courses vary in length and have different pre-requisites, but most are available to PADI certified divers and take just a day or two. Please ask your PADI Instructor for full details of Specialties available.
A diver with 5 PADI Specialties, Rescue Diver (or Junior Rescue Diver) and 50 logged dives can apply for the top non-professional level in the PADI system, the much-sought-after Master Scuba Diver rating, recognising superior achievement and proficiency in recreational diving!
