You can take the plunge in just half a day with our PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, which involves a 20-minute DVD, a pool session to practice with the equipment and a beautiful dive on a coral reef, all under the supervision of a PADI Instructor. Since you’ll love this experience, you’ll likely want to get your PADI licence, and the pool session and dive can count towards your training. Or you can go straight ahead and start the PADI licence immediately.
The PADI Open Water Diver course is an exciting and rewarding experience where you learn to use scuba equipment, plan dives, then get wet and enjoy the wonderful reefs and fish life! The course includes 5 knowledge sections using multimedia (DVD and your own diving book) and instructor presentations, 5 pool sessions to practice diving skills, and 4 dives in the sea with your instructor to hone skills and have fun. The course takes 3 to 4 days, and after successful completion you earn your PADI card, allowing you to dive to 18m with a qualified buddy (12m with a parent, guardian or PADI professional for 10- and 11-year-old Junior Open Water Divers (see Kids page)). The card is recognized around the world and is valid for life!
As a National Geographic Dive Center, Calypso can offer an extended PADI Open Water course to include National Geographic Diver. During your additional dive(s) you will master enhanced buoyancy skills, learn navigation techniques, identify reef life and carry out an exploration project of a dive site. This is an exciting course that will equip you with better dive skills and increase your enjoyment of the underwater world.
If you don’t have quite enough time to complete the Open Water course, then you can begin your training and earn the PADI Scuba Diver licence. This includes the first 3 knowledge sections, first 3 pool sessions and first 2 dives in the sea. After successful completion you earn your PADI card allowing you to dive to 12m under the supervision of a PADI Divemaster or Instructor. Again, the card is recognized world-wide and is valid for life, and you can continue your education with the remaining knowledge, pool sessions and dives to upgrade to PADI Open Water Diver at any time.
Online learning is also now available for the knowledge sections of your PADI course. Please visit the e-Learning link for more details.
